Sharp Objects: A Novel

The story centers on Camille Preaker, a Chicago-based journalist returning to her hometown of Wind Gap, Missouri, to report on the murders of two young girls, Ann Nash and Natalie Keene. The excerpts detail Camille's complicated relationships with her affluent and distant mother, Adora, and her younger half-sister, Amma, while simultaneously exposing Camille's struggles with alcoholism and a history of self-harm, referred to as cutting. Furthermore, the text introduces Richard Willis, a Kansas City detective working the case, and hints at the underlying possibility of the killer being a local resident, even suggesting the mother's involvement in a case of Munchausen by Proxy.
