Pylon: The Corrected Text

These excerpts offer a multifaceted glimpse into William Faulkner's novel Pylon, weaving together themes of aviation, love, and poverty during the Mardi Gras season in a fictionalized New Orleans. The text follows the intersecting lives of a reporter, a daredevil pilot named Roger Shumann, a mysterious woman named Laverne, and a group of mechanics, including the hard-drinking Jiggs, as they navigate the dangerous world of air racing. Faulkner juxtaposes their adrenaline-fueled existence with the corruption and exploitation of the era. Additionally, contextual notes clarify geographical allusions and literary references within the novel. Furthermore, the excerpts provide brief synopses of Faulkner's Sanctuary and Three Famous Short Novels, spotlighting his exploration of morality, societal issues, and the complexities of human relationships.
