Introduction to Cognitive Cultural Studies

Explores the interdisciplinary field of cognitive cultural studies. The various essays examine how cognitive science, evolutionary psychology, and neuroscience can illuminate literary and cultural analysis. Topics covered include literary universals, the role of facial expressions and "theory of mind" in character interpretation, and the cognitive underpinnings of historical and social phenomena like cultural hegemony. The texts collectively argue that understanding human cognition is essential for a comprehensive analysis of art, communication, and societal structures, often challenging traditional critical approaches. They also consider how narrative and language themselves reflect and shape cognitive processes and perceptions of reality.
