In Search of Russian Modernism

An academic exploration of Russian modernism, specifically focusing on its definition, chronology, and cultural context. The author advocates for viewing modernism not just as a set of literary works but as a self-identified and evolving cultural community. This approach involves re-evaluating existing terminology, understanding the economic factors influencing its development, and examining its relationship with other cultural movements, such as Realism and Marxism, as well as the influence of mass culture. The book maps modernism's presence across different geographical locations and historical periods, including its evolution in both Soviet Russia and among émigré communities.
