Health Care in World Cities: New York, Paris, and London

This Book compares and contrasts the health care systems of New York City, Paris, and London, using these major metropolitan areas as case studies to understand the impact of national health policies at a local level. It examines various indicators such as avoidable mortality rates, access to primary care (measured through avoidable hospitalizations), and access to specialty care (specifically revascularization procedures), highlighting significant inequalities within and among these cities despite their considerable healthcare resources. The text also discusses the challenges of comparing health systems across different countries with varying organizational structures and data collection methods, concluding that national policies greatly influence urban health outcomes and the effectiveness of local healthcare infrastructure.
