Healing Gotham: New York City’s Public Health Policies for the Twenty-First Century

This academic work, "Healing Gotham: New York City’s Public Health Policies for the Twenty-First Century" examines New York City's public health policies across the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, utilizing five case studies: lead poisoning, asthma, HIV/AIDS, obesity, and West Nile virus. The text analyzes the tools and strategies employed by the city's government and related entities to address these health challenges, considering the influence of factors like intergovernmental relations, economic development, and the city's diverse population. It also explores the evolution of public health approaches, the role of scientific knowledge, and the political dynamics that shape policy decisions in each instance. Ultimately, the book provides a comprehensive overview of urban public health policymaking in a major American city.
