Governance of Teaching Hospitals: Turmoil at Penn and Hopkins

This Book, primarily excerpts from John A. Kastor's book "Governance of Teaching Hospitals: Turmoil at Penn and Hopkins," examines the evolution and challenges of governing academic medical centers, specifically focusing on the University of Pennsylvania and Johns Hopkins University and their affiliated hospitals. The author chronicles periods of administrative upheaval and attempts at restructuring governance, driven by factors such as financial pressures, leadership conflicts, and changes in the healthcare landscape. By detailing the experiences of these two prominent institutions, the book analyzes the forces that shape the administration of teaching hospitals and the impact of governance models on their missions.
