Game On!: Gamification, Gameful Design, and the Rise of the Gamer Educator

This Book, "Game On!: Gamification, Gameful Design, and the Rise of the Gamer Educator" examines the increasing application of game-design principles such as gamification and gameful design within higher education to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes, particularly in online environments. The author explores the theoretical underpinnings of these approaches, drawing from cognitive science and motivational theories, and presents five distinct case studies of instructors experimenting with gamification in their courses across various disciplines and institutions. Through these examples and analytical frameworks, the book investigates the potential benefits and challenges of integrating game elements into pedagogy, considering factors like student motivation, course completion rates, and the role of technology. Ultimately, it seeks to provide insights and models for educators interested in leveraging the power of games to create more engaging and effective learning experiences.
