Five Design-Sheets: Creative Design and Sketching for Computing and Visualisation

A structured framework created to help software developers and designers ideate and plan interactive systems through sketching. The authors argue that beginning a project is often the most difficult stage, making a systematic sketching process essential for moving from abstract concepts to concrete, implementable solutions. The book is organized into three primary phases: Thinking, which focuses on critical and creative mindset; Preparation, which involves data analysis and gathering materials; and Sketching, where the five specific sheets are utilized to filter and refine designs. By employing this method, creators can explore alternative layouts, consider ethical implications, and communicate complex technical visions before committing to expensive coding. Ultimately, the approach serves as a pedagogical and professional tool to improve design-thinking and ensure that the final software is both functional and user-centric.
