Firstborn of Venice: Vicenza in the Early Renaissance State

This historical Book examines the relationship between Venice and Vicenza during the 15th century. It analyzes Vicenza's governance under Venetian rule, focusing on political, social, cultural, and economic aspects. The book argues that Venice, while asserting its authority, largely preserved Vicentine laws and customs. It details the complexities of the composite state, including unification efforts, legal interactions, and power dynamics between the center (Venice) and the periphery (Vicenza). The work further explores themes of loyalty, cultural exchange, and the evolving identities of both Venetian rulers and Vicentine subjects. Ultimately, the text paints a nuanced picture of a territorial state balancing central control with local prerogatives.
