Explaining Postmodernism: Skepticism and Socialism from Rousseau to Foucault

This Book presents an in-depth examination of postmodernism, tracing its philosophical roots and exploring its manifestations in academia, culture, and politics. It contrasts postmodern thought with the Enlightenment, highlighting the Counter-Enlightenment's attack on reason as a key precursor. The document analyzes the influence of philosophers like Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, and Heidegger on postmodernism, examining their critiques of objectivity and embrace of subjectivity. It investigates how postmodern ideas impacted socialism, leading to a crisis of faith and a shift towards new epistemological strategies. Furthermore, it investigates the evolution of collectivist thought, the rise of leftist terrorism, and the role of rhetoric and "unmasking" in postmodern discourse. The analysis concludes with an exploration of ressentiment and nihilism within the postmodern framework.
