Eros and the Mysteries of Love: The Metaphysics of Sex

Julius Evola's "Eros and the Mysteries of Love" explores the metaphysical dimensions of sex, moving beyond purely physical or psychological understandings. The text examines how eros, often deteriorated in modern society, was once integral to sacred rites and initiation ceremonies. It critiques the modern "universal worship of sex" as cerebral and detached from true erotic experience, contrasting it with ancient, holistic approaches. Evola analyzes the interplay of male and female principles in manifestation, drawing from diverse traditions like Kabbalism, Gnosticism, and Tantrism to examine sacred ceremonies involving sexuality. He presents a complex view of erotic experiences, discussing both their potential for transcendence and the dangers of their misuse, like those found in the Sabbat, and ultimately explores the concept of sexual magic, highlighting its underlying philosophies, potential pitfalls, and the importance of inner transformation.
