Caste Matters

Caste Matters by Suraj Yengde is a memoir exploring the author's experiences as a Dalit, a member of the lowest caste in India. The book details the pervasive nature of caste-based discrimination, illustrating how it affects various aspects of life, from childhood poverty and social stigma to career obstacles and ongoing violence. Yengde examines the complexities of caste within India's social, political, and economic structures, highlighting the continued prevalence of untouchability and the inadequacy of existing systems to address the issue. He also explores the roles of Dalit love, humor, and nationalism in resisting oppression, and offers a critique of approaches to social justice that have failed to achieve meaningful change.
