Target's Chelsea Expansion: Sales Tax Rebate & Incentives

Chelsea City Hall to Host Public Hearing on Potential Target Store: A Major Economic Development ProjectThis week, Chelsea City Hall will host a public hearing to discuss a significant economic development project: the potential arrival of a new Target store. The proposal involves Franklin Land Associates, a company connected to Nashville-based GBT Realty, which has an option to buy twenty acres of land at the intersection of Chelsea Corners Way and Alabama forty-seven. Target would then acquire nearly twelve acres of that property, creating a substantial retail footprint for the popular chain. To encourage this development, the city is considering offering incentives, including a thirty-seven and a half percent sales tax rebate, which could amount to fifteen million dollars over twenty years. Additionally, the city would pay GBT Realty two point four million dollars in installments as construction progresses and occupancy increases.Target currently operates nineteen stores across Alabama, with five in the Birmingham metropolitan area. This new Chelsea location would expand their presence, offering more shopping options for residents and potentially attracting customers from surrounding communities. DNN | The Daily News Now!
