HBCUs Partner with Charter Schools for Better Education
A groundbreaking national education initiative is set to revolutionize the path from elementary school to college, leveraging the strength of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Backed by a $20 million commitment from City Fund and Bloomberg Philanthropies, this partnership aims to connect new public charter schools directly with HBCUs. Alabama, with its highest number of HBCUs, is leading the way. The initiative, involving City Fund, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and the United Negro College Fund, seeks to expand access to quality education and bridge the gap from childhood learning to higher education. This partnership is built on research showing that charter schools can help narrow achievement gaps, particularly for underserved communities. The first testing ground is Alabama, with I Dream Big Academy in Tuscaloosa and D.C. Wolfe Elementary in Macon County converting into charter schools, partnering with Stillman College and Tuskegee University respectively. DNN | The Daily News Now!
