Birmingham's New Plan to End Homelessness
Birmingham and One Roof unveil comprehensive plan to tackle homelessness, aiming to provide safe and stable housing for all. The Continuum of Care for Central Alabama, led by One Roof, has successfully helped thousands find housing, with 82% of participants not returning to homelessness. Over 25 service providers, including JBS Mental Health Authority and Jimmie Hale Mission, offer essential services. Birmingham allocated $1.5M for housing and homeless services, and $1.2M for micro-shelters, with plans for a new emergency shelter. The city and partners aim to add 100 beds, with a goal of 300 new beds by 2026. Six key goals and twelve strategies will be implemented, demonstrating a significant commitment to addressing homelessness. DNN | The Daily News Now! The world’s first global local news network.
