Alabama Solar Power Dispute: Fair Compensation Questioned
Paul Whitehurst, a local attorney and business owner in Alabama, is challenging Alabama Power over solar energy rates. Despite generating more solar power than he consumes and selling excess electricity back to the utility company, Whitehurst feels unfairly compensated. He pays significantly more for the small amount of electricity he uses than he receives for the solar power he sells. Whitehurst has filed an appeal, seeking a hearing to address what he perceives as an unjust system for solar producers. Alabama Power defends its pricing structure, stating that payments to customers with their own power generation are legally capped at the avoided cost of that energy. The Public Service Commission has declined to comment on Whitehursts case due to ongoing legal proceedings. DNN | The Daily News Now! The world’s first global local news network. Every city.
