The Retirement of Brother Wease-Behind the Mic, Radio Shifts and the Birth of Billified

Since Billified launched on December 5, 2022, listeners have been asking for this episode—and it’s finally here. Bill welcomes Mark The Soldier, and Rich “The Bull” Gaenzler pay tribute to their longtime friend and mentor, Brother Wease, a legendary radio personality from Rochester, New York, and a member of the National Radio Hall of Fame.

Just last week, Wease shocked his audience by abruptly announcing his retirement following a major format change at his station, shifting from talk radio to rock. In this episode, Bill, Mark The Soldier and Bull share personal stories from their time working with Brother Wease, reflect on his national influence, and break down the factors that may have contributed to his sudden decision to step away.

From the highs of radio’s golden era to the challenges that led to the decline of FM formats, this conversation dives deep into the inside world of broadcasting—and how those changes ultimately led to the creation of this very podcast.

Buckle up—This is the episode you’ve been waiting for, and the story is finally yours to hear.
