Life in the Singularity Ep. 2: Superintelligence, the AI Value Chain & Space-Based Data Centers
Matt McDonagh returns for episode two of Life in the Singularity with a deep dive on superintelligence. Matt opens by arguing that "AI" is the wrong name for what we're living through: in his view it isn't artificial at all, but the pooled natural intelligence of all of us, pushed forward by the data, hardware and software curves he laid out in episode one. He covers the gap between AGI and ASI, the explore-and-exploit loop, and the shift from chatting with models to commanding agents, including agents he built to track the frontier labs. Then he gets practical: harnesses that put deterministic rails around probabilistic models, digital twins of factories, AI-designed materials like piezoelectrics, the Boring Company's tunnels and the economics of space-based data centers. In the back half, Matt maps the AI value chain in three layers (the physical foundation, the compute engine and the application layer), explains why CPUs are making a comeback, and shares how he, a former investment banker, sizes up AI businesses by free cash flow and return on invested capital. He closes on his case that superintelligence is an engine of decentralization and sovereignty. More Life in the Singularity: https://badlandsmedia.tv/life
