Alphas Make Sandwiches Ep. 86: For the Birds, Emergency Bypass & America 250 History Quiz

Ashe in America, Christy Lupo and Jackie Espada open Monday's Alphas Make Sandwiches with Christy's idiom segment on "for the birds." She traces the phrase to World War II slang, a 1943 Stars and Stripes example and the theory about birds picking grain out of droppings, and a side trip into the movie Rio leads to Anne Hathaway's busy film year. Jackie then walks through three iPhone tips: setting Emergency Bypass so chosen contacts' calls and texts ring through on silent, screening unknown callers by asking the reason for calling, and Hold Assist, which waits on hold for you and lets you know when a real person picks up. The hosts compare how they use these features and ask chat for ideas on where the segment goes next. Ashe brings back her America 250 history segment in quiz form, built from her daily history updates. Christy, Jackie and chat compete across categories like Invention and Innovation, War on Every Front and Land and Liberty, with questions on Thomas Edison, Cornwallis at Yorktown, the Saturday Night Massacre, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the USS Constitution. Christy takes the win with 5,100 points.
