Singer Songwriter Michael Veitch Discovers The Secret O Life From James Taylor
Folk‑Americana songwriter Michael Veitch has long believed that songs are living things — carriers of memory, mentors in disguise, emotional landmarks that stay with us long after the moment passes. On October 12, he releases “Discovered,” a new album produced by Julie Last, gathering thirteen songs that have shaped his artistic life. Each track is a story, a friendship, a coincidence, or a turning point — a songwriter’s memoir told through other people’s works.
Veitch’s journey has never followed a straight line. He grew up in Vermont, found his artistic footing in Greenwich Village’s Monday Night Songwriters Meeting led by Jack Hardy, and was encouraged early on by Shawn Colvin, who sent him to Hardy’s legendary circle. He later opened a tour for Colvin, performed at the Newport Folk Festival, won a songwriting award at Kerrville, and continued building a career rooted in community, conscience, and craft.
His political and humanitarian instincts were shaped in part by Bernie Sanders, whose mentorship helped Veitch understand that songs — like leadership — can be both beautifully built and socially awake.
That blend of craft and conscience has defined his career. Veitch’s song “Veteran’s Day” was discovered at Kerrville by Judy Collins, who later recorded it for her album "Bohemian," calling it “one of the best songs I ever recorded.” In 2022, on the heels of his Top 20 Folk album “Wachtraum,” which produced the #1 Folk Radio single “Valentine’s Day” (co‑written with Julie Last) — Veitch appeared on the PBS television special We Remember: Songs of Survivors, collaborating with Holocaust survivor Rita Schwartz on the song “Above the Rain.”
With "Discovered," Veitch brings that same depth, dignity, and historical sensitivity to the songs that shaped him.
