Spirit of the Wind Returns to Big Screen
Spirit of the Wind, a classic Alaskan film from 1979, is making a rare return to the big screen in Anchorage on November 15th. The movie, which launched the career of Alaska Native actor Pius Savage, tells the story of legendary mushing champion George Attla. Despite its success in Alaska and critical acclaim, the film had a limited release outside the state and largely disappeared from theaters. Director Ralph Liddle and cinematographer John Logue recently upgraded the film to a modern digital format, revealing its stunning clarity and sharpness. Pius Savage, who portrayed Attla, will attend the special screening, which is being held in honor of Alaska Native and American Indian Heritage Month. A portion of ticket sales will support a movie preservation group and the Doyon Foundation. DNN | The Daily News Now! The world’s first global local news network. Every city. Every story. AI powered.
