Opinion: We can strengthen Alaska’s health care workforce by joining the nurse licensure compact
Alaska's nurse shortage is projected to become the worst in the country, threatening care in both city hospitals and remote clinics. A practical solution is the multi-state nurse licensure compact, which allows nurses to hold a single license recognized across most of the country. Joining the compact would enable Alaska to quickly recruit nurses from other compact states, benefiting rural areas and Alaska's nurses. The compact lets Alaska keep its own rules around professional standards and discipline, and it has received strong approval from various stakeholders. Joining the compact could help stabilize Alaska's workforce, protect patient care, and ensure access to quality health services. DNN | The Daily News Now! The world’s first global local news network.
