Man Sentenced for Unprovoked Murder in Alaska
Mathew Sanchez, a forty-year-old man, received a forty-year prison sentence for the unprovoked murder of Matthew Lundy in 2021. Sanchez, who had prior convictions, was initially charged with first-degree murder and other offenses. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in April and was sentenced to ninety years, with fifty years suspended, and additional probation. The incident occurred when Sanchez, at a Wasilla residence, grabbed a gun and shot Lundy, who was attempting to de-escalate the situation. Sanchez also held others at gunpoint before his arrest.
