Gwich’in Film 'Two Old Women' Brings Indigenous Language to Screen
Two Old Women Book Adapted into Gwichin Language Film: A Powerful Story of Survival and Cultural PreservationFairbanks-based filmmakers from Deenaadàį’ Productions are bringing Velma Wallis award-winning book Two Old Women to the screen for the first time. The film, entirely in the Gwich’in language, tells the story of two elderly women who must rely on their ancestral knowledge to survive in the Alaskan wilderness. Director Princess Johnson has wanted to adapt the book for over twenty years and believes the languages richness and nuance are essential for the storys authenticity. The film premiered in Hawai’i and will show in Alaska in December, with hopes of becoming a full-length feature. DNN | The Daily News Now! The world’s first global local news network. Every city.
