Federal Funding Cuts Threaten Bristol Bay Campus Staff
Federal funding cuts threaten half of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Bristol Bay campus staff, including seven faculty and staff members paid through a federal program. The funding, intended to provide nearly four million dollars over five years, supports positions, not student aid. The cancellation of this funding, due to the U.S. Department of Education deeming it discriminatory, jeopardizes the existence of colleges serving Native communities and undermines the federal governments obligations to Native students. The university is actively seeking other funding sources to maintain these critical positions. DNN | The Daily News Now! The world’s first global local news network. Every city. Every story.
