Fairbanks food bank ready for potential increase in November demand, official says

Alaskan families may face food insecurity if SNAP benefits lapse due to a federal government shutdown. The Fairbanks Community Food Bank is preparing for a potential surge in demand, with enough food on hand to cover three to six months. They're also gearing up for their annual Thanksgiving giveaway, aiming to distribute 3,500 boxes of holiday staples. Volunteers play a crucial role in keeping the food bank running, with over 1,400 volunteers, including local students, helping with sorting and preparing food boxes. For those suddenly without SNAP benefits, the food bank offers food boxes and connects individuals with caseworkers for further assistance. DNN | The Daily News Now!
