Eagle River Activists Seek New Borough

Eagle River, Alaska, seeks to form a new borough, Eaglexit, to gain more local control over land use, schools, and public safety. After submitting a proposal to the states Local Boundary Commission, they aim to gather signatures for a public vote. However, concerns arise over the potential half-billion-dollar cost for buying out municipal facilities and infrastructure, raising questions about the communitys ability to maintain current service levels without increasing taxes.
