Anchorage's Snow Day Dilemma

Every morning, Heather Philp, Anchorage School Districts transportation director, assesses road conditions for student safety. With a team of drivers, she decides on school closures, balancing student enjoyment of snow days with the need to make up missed time. Philp consults with weather services, municipal officials, and the state Department of Transportation, considering various factors before making a final decision, which impacts up to twenty-two thousand children.
