Anchorage Carjacking Standoff Ends in Shooting | Anchorage News

A tense carjacking standoff in Midtown Anchorage ended in gunfire as police confronted a suspect believed to have violently stolen an elderly man’s truck. After hours of negotiations at a crowded home, the armed suspect emerged, walked toward officers, and pointed a gun — prompting return fire. The suspect is hospitalized, while four officers — including some newly hired in 2023 — are on administrative leave. This marks Anchorage’s eighth officer-involved shooting this year, four of which were fatal. An internal probe and special prosecutors will review whether charges are warranted, and no formal charges have been confirmed yet.
