Anchorage Adds 40 Beds to Combat Cold | Anchorage News

Anchorage is racing against the cold, opening 40 new shelter beds that filled fast—20 at East 56th Avenue and 20 at Linda’s Place, a former strip club. More beds are on the way before month’s end as temps drop dangerously in fall. Police, fire crews, and nonprofits hit the streets early to connect people with warmth, detox, and care. With only 300 year-round beds, officials say they need 450–500 to meet demand—this is just the beginning of a bigger push to keep folks safe as winter bites.
