Alaska Students Find Home in Anchorage After Typhoon

Fifth graders Ellyne Aliralria and Rayann Martin, along with hundreds of other students, evacuated their homes in Western Alaska due to Typhoon Halong. Theyre now attending College Gate Elementary in Anchorage, where Principal Darrell Berntsen and staff, many of whom are Alaska Native, provide a sense of familiarity. The school prioritizes mental health support and incorporates traditional Alaska Native values and language to help rebuild trust in the education system for these communities.
