Alaska Students Build Affordable Homes

High school students in Juneau, Alaska, are gaining real-world experience by building affordable homes for their community. This innovative program, a partnership between the Juneau Housing Trust and the Juneau School District, provides students with hands-on construction skills and addresses a critical housing need. Students like Raegan Adams learn practical skills, from feeding insulation into a machine to constructing new, energy-efficient homes. The program, with a history dating back to the seventies, offers an alternative pathway to well-paying jobs in the trades, a field experiencing a nationwide decline in skilled workers.
