Alaska's Earthquake Early Warning System: A Step Closer
Scientists are making significant progress in developing an earthquake early warning system for Alaska. A team from the Alaska Earthquake Center, including doctoral student Cade Quigley, recently retrieved fifty-two seismic sensors from Kodiak Island and near Homer. These sensors, designed to detect seismic activity, were strategically placed to monitor offshore earthquakes. Quigley will now analyze the data collected to determine the optimal number and arrangement of sensors for the system, aiming to provide precious seconds of warning before strong shaking begins. With over forty thousand earthquakes detected annually in Alaska, this system could significantly enhance safety and potentially save lives. DNN | The Daily News Now!
