Alaska Governor Faces Senate Appointments

Alaskas political scene is in flux as Governor Mike Dunleavy mulls appointments for two vacant legislative seats, following the resignations of Senators Mike Shower and Shelley Hughes. Republicans in Hughes district have proposed three candidates: Representative Cathy Tilton, school board member Tom Bergey, and Gerrie Deal. Dunleavy must fill Hughes seat by December fourteenth, and Showers seat by an earlier deadline. If Dunleavy chooses a current House member, another vacancy will need to be filled within thirty days. Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Mia Costello resigned, leaving the minoritys position uncertain as the legislative session nears. DNN | The Daily News Now!
