The Osun River in south-west Nigeria is a paradox. On one hand, it is revered by those who believe in its spiritual connection to the river goddess Oshun and its healing powers. On the other, mining activities have led to its pollution, affecting the river's water quality. In the first of a two-part series on the Osun River, Africa Science Focus dives into this complex landscape.
