Let the Game Come to You
"Let the game come to you!"
My college basketball coach, Dean Smith, would often remind his players of this wise and proven adage, but I've heard it said by a number of other great leaders and coaches as well.
As human beings, our natural inclination is to try to force plays to occur in our lives. To make something happen the way we want it to happen. And the result is often failure.
But when we just enjoy the game – taking its natural flow in stride – and let the game come to us – most often, good things happen.
The same is true with life and our faith walk. When we take matters into our own hands and try to force life to be as we want it to be, we bring stress and anxiety upon ourselves.
But when we let the Spirit lead us through each day, we receive the game as it comes to us. Whatever it may bring, we say, "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it" (Psalm 118:24).
And we're able to enjoy the day to the full as God intended.
