SHERLOCK HOLMES STORIES: THE ADVENTURE OF THE EMPTY HOUSE A SHERLOCK HOLMES MYSTERY by ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE

The first in "The Return of Sherlock Holmes" series

🎙️ SHOW NOTES — "THE ADVENTURE OF THE EMPTY HOUSE" 1001 Sherlock Holmes Stories & The Best of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

In this unforgettable tale, Sherlock Holmes returns from the dead — and the world of detective fiction changes forever.

"The Adventure of the Empty House" picks up three years after the tragic events at Reichenbach Falls. Dr. Watson, still grieving the loss of his closest friend, has settled into a quieter life. London has moved on. Crime has not. And then, without warning, everything changes.

A mysterious murder shocks the city — a killing carried out under impossible circumstances. As Watson studies the case, he crosses paths with a familiar figure in the shadows… and the story erupts into one of the most dramatic reunions in all of literature.

Holmes reveals the truth behind his disappearance, the danger that forced him into hiding, and the long game he has been playing against the remnants of Professor Moriarty's criminal empire. What follows is a tense, atmospheric pursuit through London's darkened streets, culminating in a confrontation inside the eerie, dust‑filled "empty house" that gives the story its name.

This episode marks the official resurrection of Sherlock Holmes — a moment readers in 1903 greeted with relief, excitement, and sheer joy. Doyle's return to Baker Street is filled with energy, clever deduction, and the emotional weight of a friendship restored.

Whether you're revisiting a classic or hearing it for the first time, "The Adventure of the Empty House" remains one of the most satisfying and iconic stories in the Holmes canon — the triumphant return of the world's greatest detective.
