Evening Folding Its Wings
For everyone settling as the light goes: Evening Folding Its Wings spends three hours and forty-nine evening minutes roosting with the day into darkness — the sparrows finding eaves, the swallows circling home, the crows heading west, the doves settling paired, the robins last singing, the wings folding neat, the feathers fluffing warm, the beaks tucking down, the feet gripping bark, the nests holding eggs, the chicks quieting down, the roost branch swaying, the leaves closing over, the branches lowering slow, the bark cooling rough, the sap slowing down, the roots resting deep, the laundry folded warm, the blankets folded soft, the napkins folded crisp, the letters folded shut, the map folded away, the tablecloth shaken out, the day folding shut, the light folding gold, the shadows folding long, the sky folding violet, the clouds folding pink, the sun folding under, the work folding done, the hands folding still, the eyes folding shut, the breath folding slow, the dusk handing over, the roost holding all, and the quiet folding in — ending folded into the roosting night. Three hours and forty-nine evening minutes from roosting with the settling birds to folded into the roosting night, ending with the listener tucked and sleeping in the quiet dark. The script was developed with AI assistance and shaped by hand into one continuous evening practice of settling without worry.
