A trailblazer in country music, this singer-songwriter made a name for himself in the late 1960s as a behind-the-scenes songwriter, penning hits like "Kentucky Rain" for Elvis Presley and "Pure Love" for Ronnie Milsap. His unique blend of country and pop influences helped shape the sound of the genre in the 1980s, yielding iconic songs such as "Suspicions", "I Love a Rainy Night", and "Drivin' My Life Away".
