Written by Frank Wildhorn and Chuck Jackson and produced by Narada Michael Walden, Arista Records released it as the album's fourth single from the album on February 15, 1988. Houston initially refused to record the song due to what she perceived to be a lack of a message but eventually changed her mind once Arista president Clive Davis convinced her it would be a success for her.
