About
Born: January 15, 1961 in United States Died: June 12, 1977
In the early 1960s, this iconic Detroit-based girl group, formed from the Primettes in 1959, embarked on a journey that would cement their status as the most commercially successful act of Motown Records. With an impressive twelve number 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including hits written and produced by the legendary Holland-Dozier-Holland, they paved the way for future African-American R&B and soul musicians to achieve mainstream success. As the 16th greatest Hot 100 artist of all time, their impact on music history remains unparalleled.
