From the streets of Harlem, New York City, emerged a pioneering hip-hop duo in the late 1980s, consisting of Robert Ginyard, aka Rob Base, and Rodney Bryce, aka DJ E-Z Rock. Their chart-topping single It Takes Two, released in 1988, is widely regarded as a hip-hop staple, achieving platinum certification and catapulting the duo to mainstream success. As one of the first rap acts to achieve crossover appeal, they paved the way for future generations of artists to break into the popular music mainstream.
