About
Born: August 21, 1904 in Red Bank Died: April 26, 1984
Behind the iconic sounds of American jazz lies the pioneering spirit of a legendary musician who revolutionized the genre with his unique style. Forming the Count Basie Orchestra in 1935, this innovative bandleader took the group to Chicago in 1936 for a groundbreaking recording session that marked the beginning of a nearly five-decade reign at the helm. His trailblazing approach, characterized by a minimalist piano style and emphasis on the rhythm section, continues to influence jazz musicians to this day.
