Auburn football has plenty of offensive problems to solve during the bye week, but the defense isn't escaping this conversation. Hard Truth No. 4 is about Auburn’s run defense and tackling. DJ Durkin has taken plenty of criticism, but when you go back and watch Auburn’s defense, there are plenty of situations where the scheme is putting players exactly where they need to be. The problem is Auburn isn't consistently finishing the play. Missed tackles continue to show up. Against Tennessee, Auburn’s defense did enough early to force the Volunteers into a quarterback change. Once the game became more one dimensional, the Tigers had an opportunity to take control defensively. Instead, Tennessee leaned on DeSean Bishop and Auburn couldn't consistently get him on the ground. That's frustrating because Auburn knew where the football was going. The Tigers have faced talented running backs this season, but playing in the SEC means Auburn is going to see talented players every week.
