On the Monday morning of April 18th, 2016, a handful of bleary-eyed fitness students filed into the Creekside Church of Christ in Midlothian TX just before 5am—expecting to find their trainer Missy Bevers and her array of workout equipment ready to whip them into shape. But instead, they encountered a scene that could have been straight out of an episode of Law & Order. 45 year old Missy Bevers was lying unresponsive on the floor in a pool of blood. Terrible wounds covered her chest and head and shattered glass was scattered all around her. No one else was in sight. And just like that, the perceived bubble of safety over the sleepy town of Midlothian was destroyed forever.
It’s been nearly a decade since that morning, and police and armchair detectives alike have torn their hair out looking for the one piece of evidence that would finally lead them to a killer. There’s been a slew of theories, red herrings, internet gossip & bone-chilling surveillance footage—and don’t worry, we’ll be getting into it all today. This is a case that Kaitlyn and I both spiraled on long before we ever had our own true crime podcast—and if you’re not familiar with this case—sorry, you’re definitely about to spiral too.
