When I was growing up I wanted to be myself, which I noticed quickly that no one really wanted. Why? Because they are afraid to be seen, and afraid to see. Programming trains us to be rewarded for putting on the “correct” face and attitude, to say and do the “right” things to get love and approval. And then there are the Rebels that are more immune to wanting that reward. But they might err on the side of looking for disapproval, which is the same shadow as looking for approval.
