A legendary figure in American music, this iconic singer-songwriter was renowned for his powerful, soothing bass-baritone voice and a distinctive sound that blended the chugging rhythms of his backing band, the Tennessee Three, with themes of sorrow, redemption, and rebellion. His later work often explored the complexities of the human condition, while his free prison concerts and trademark all-black stage attire solidified his status as a countercultural icon. Dubbed the "Man in Black," his enduring legacy continues to captivate audiences to this day.
