With a career spanning law enforcement, criminal interdiction, and education, Cody Smith brings a wealth of experience to Beyond the Barrel. Holding a Doctorate in Education from Grand Canyon University (in progress), a Master’s in Public Administration, and a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice, their background seamlessly blends academia and frontline expertise. As a former Program Manager and Criminal Interdiction Training Specialist with the U.S. Department of Transportation, they have trained over 13,000 federal, state, and local law enforcement officials, shaping national-level programs and leading training initiatives across the U.S. and abroad. Their work in commercial motor vehicle interdiction has earned them national recognition, including the DIAP Instructor and Interdiction Officer of the Year Award. Beyond law enforcement, they have transitioned into education, currently serving as a 3rd Grade Mathematics and Sciences Teacher, applying their knowledge of adult learning to elementary education. Their passion for training, policy, and leadership is evident through their participation in the New Mexico Leadership Program (U.S. OPM), various instructional certifications, and multiple conference presentations.
