Ruth writes about his introduction to the game in his youth in Baltimore and his career, as well as his insights into baseball. He covers his early years as an inexperienced professional player and deals with offensive and defensive baseball strategy; he also fills his book with anecdotes about many of the colorful baseball characters of his era.
